An ambient trap/wave EP. The most cathartic project I’ve made so far. I started making this back in April while trying to get out of a deep writer’s block I was in after finishing my album “Vega.” which was only compounded greatly due to COVID. And just as I was on the cusp of breaking through that block, the killings by the police and protests erupted in May. All the anger I had for this country and the police put me back in that block. And I don’t hold anything against that as there are much bigger and more important things to worry about than my music.

I had so much hate and hopelessness for this world that I could not create anything though. But learning from history that art can grow even in the worst times brought a new drive and fire in me. I don’t want this horrid world to win and destroy my creative spirit. I found so much inspiration in the communities across our country that came together to stand against these evils. Communities and people that continue to rage on against injustice at this very moment.

What I find interesting is that I already had the title of this project written down before all of this. If anything, I take it as a sign. Outside of its metallurgical uses, a “crucible” also means a severe trial in which something new is forged.

What that “new” is exactly, I don’t know. But what I do know is that this year has forever changed my views on why I create. This EP is a reflection of all those feelings.
